loop-based recording artist community_____
Tapegerm was started in May 2000 by a few folks who were making mixes of loops taken from old cassette tape albums, homemade tracks, and loops of our own for a new project being run at homemademusic.com. After a few months a few of us thought it would be cool to start collaborating together by dropping our loops into a pool shared by everyone in the group and see what kind of music came out.
That’s basically what we’re doing five years later. There are about fifteen of us from various countries making loops for the pool now. Each of us contribute to help pay for the server that runs this site. We’re a non-profit artist-run collective and people help us keep going by buying our loop and audio CDs. This year we just started offering audio accounts to folks who just want to make music with our loops. Gold Artists pay a little bit for more audio space and that helps us keep going as well.
Basically we’re a bunch of artists who have fun combining sounds in different ways and hearing how other artists combine those sounds in other ways. The resulting music evolves over time and it’s great to click any one of the PLAY ALL buttons and just listen to it.
