This field recording repository is an extension of the eGroup disscussion list Phonography. Although this is primarily for the Phonography readers, others are welcome and encouraged to upload their recordings.

Share your field recordings through the web form below. Any file format is accepted, though MP3 is preffered.

When adding to the archive add some detail about the recording. For example, how the recording was made, what gear was used, what the recording is of etc.

All fields optional (except the file upload field). Once you hit the upload button - give it a minute because the screen won’t change until the file is fully uploaded (so don’t sit there and jam on the upload button cause you think nothing is happening!). Oh yeah, the files are at the bottom of this page.

Encuentro Iberoamericano sobre Paisajes Sonoros

Con el objetivo de intercambiar informaciones y métodos de trabajo y compartir nuestra diversidad sonora, se presenta este Encuentro Iberoamericano sobre Paisajes Sonoros en el marco del Festival América España de la Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España (OCNE). Se celebrará en Madrid, en el Auditorio Nacional de Música, entre el 12 y el 15 de Junio próximo, y será una oportunidad única no sólo para discutir, escuchar e intercambiar ideas y materiales entre especialistas sino también para dar a conocer las bases conceptuales y las principales aplicaciones de este campo a todos los interesados. Queremos que sea además la ocasión de establecer formulas para darle una continuidad iniciando un foro permanente: el Foro Iberoamericano de los Paisajes Sonoros.

El Paisaje Sonoro se mueve en un ámbito musical de planteamientos abiertos y pluridisciplinares con múltiples implicaciones y aplicaciones (composición musical, comunicación acústica, ecología acústica, contaminación acústica, patrimonio inmaterial, pedagogía musical, geografía sonora, urbanismo sonoro…). Partiendo de una información y de conceptos básicos que permitan comprender la importancia y el alcance de este campo del sonido se mostrarán, mediante conferencias, debates y audiciones, los logros realizados por los principales grupos, artistas e investigadores que desarrollan esta actividad en España y Latinoamérica.

“Esta parte de la programación, con motivo del aniversario de Grieg, se centrará en el método del artista. Se invitará a niños, jóvenes, compositores, músicos y artistas del mundo de la acústica para crear arte musical inspirado en el método y el espíritu de Grieg.

El tema de la Recopilación se ha elegido debido al interés que mostró Edvard Grieg en los sonidos que escuchaba en la naturaleza y en la música popular. Como otros muchos compositores de su tiempo, su interés en esta área era una expresión del proceso de realidad nacional emergente y creación de identidad. En su obra, Grieg hizo extensivo el uso de los elementos musicales populares e imágenes de tono que recrean y reelaboran impresiones del paisaje de la naturaleza noruega. El canto de los pájaros, las cascadas, la lluvia y las montañas encontraron un lugar en sus composiciones, y los que escuchan su obra reciben una experiencia genuina de la naturaleza a través de su música. Grieg fue un recopilador de los sonidos de la naturaleza noruega, un recopilador de sonidos.

El programa Recopilación tiene dos componentes principales. Uno, El Sonido de la Primavera Noruega, es para profesionales. El otro, Lydverkstedet, (el Taller del Sonido) pretende dirigirse a niños y adolescentes. Cada componente se ha dividido en dos fases: recopilación de sonidos y procesamiento artístico. Piksel is an international event for artists and developers working with open source audiovisual software, hardware & art. Part workshop, part festival, it is organised in Bergen, Norway, by the Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts (BEK) and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of FLOSS & art.

This years event - Piksel07 - continues the exploration of free/libre and open source audiovisual code and it’s myriad of expressions, and also investigates further the open hardware theme introduced at Piksel06.

Piksel07 is done in collaboration with Gallery 3,14 which will host this years exhibition. Piksel is organised by BEK and a community of core participants including members of collectives dyne.org, goto10.org, ap/xxxxx, hackitectura.net, riereta.net, drone.ws, gephex.org and others.

For the exhibition and other parts of the programme we currently seek projects in the following categories:

1. Installations
Projects related to the open hardware theme including but not restricted to: circuit bending, reverse engineering, repurposing, modding and DIY electronics, preferably programmed by and running on free and open source software.

2. Audiovisual performance
Live art realised by the use of open source software and/or hardware.

3. Software/Hardware presentations
Innovative DIY hardware and audiovisual software tools or software art released under an open licence.

December 24th, 2006 marked the 100th anniversary of Quebecer Reginald Aubrey Fessenden’s first voice transmission by radio. The son of a minister from the Eastern Townships, Fessenden (East Bolton, Québec, 1866 – Bermuda, 1932), was intrigued with the possibilities of wireless transmission when as a child he saw a demonstration by Graham Bell of the telephone.
This event is more than a milestone in radio history: it is a remarkable revolution. The exhibition takes the visitor back in time as it relates the history of a fascinating, but complex technology. The radio technology, as well as its components, the various ways it can be used, and the inventors that contributed to its expansion, are featured in the exhibition.

Los Yoshida Brothers tocando el Shamisen

Es una aplicación para realizar actuaciones en tiempo real con los contenidos de Internet (texto, audio, video, hipertexto, blogs, podcasts, rss, navegacion por tags o todo lo que se te ocurra…) y transformar la experiencia de la navegación online en un evento compartido.
Igual que los djs o los vjs con el sonido o la imagen, los wjs intervienen en directo sobre los hipermedia de la red mezclando todos los formatos y mapeando itinerarios posibles de deriva digital. La aplicación es sencilla y desarrollada con software libre.

El programa es el siguiente:

Hay que enviar cv y solicitud a Bilbaoarte pero también podeis saltaros el protocolo mandandomela directamente a mi.

FRONTE[I]RAS 07. INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF TRANSDISCIPLINARY ARTS OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTIC PROJECTS

PRESENTATION

_This event will comprise a program of artistic residencies in Galicia and Portugal. Two simultaneous residencies will take place, one in Nodar (a small rural village in Portugal) and another on the outskirts of Pontevedra (Galicia). Several artists from different origins and backgrounds will gather during 10 days on each residency space for the development of artistic projects in close connection with social thinkers who will hold a critique observatory during the same period.

As a result of the work produced during the residencies, a final presentation of the developed projects will take place in the form of an itinerant exhibition, starting in Pontevedra and ending in Portugal. A parallel round of conferences and audiovisual artistic talks related to the proposed theme will also take place.

ARTISTIC PROJECTS

The central theme for the open call will be the concept of border (“fronteira”) in all its possible variants, a reflection on its multiple interpretations with a focus not only on the physical / geographical borders but also on their dissolution in ideological, cultural, virtual, and ability borders.
The artists can freely choose their artistic languages and tools (audio, video, performance, installation, intermedia, etc.). The projects will be exhibited both in the original format and in documental format, in case it will not be possible its translocation to the exhibit room (for instance, site specific projects or projects with a considerable physical scale).
The invited social thinkers will develop, during the residency period, a fieldwork related to the concept of borders, which will be presented in a conference to be held during the final symposium.

OPEN CALL FOR PROJECTS

1. Alg-a will award 5 Fronte[i]ras 07 grants for artistic projects to be developed during a residency in Pondevedra (Galicia). Binaural will award 5 Fronte[i]ras 07 grants for artistic projects to be developed during a residency in Nodar (Portugal).
2. The amount of each grant will be 300 Euros (less the corresponding withholding tax). The organization of Encontro Fronte[i]ras 07 will bear housing and food costs during the residency and final presentations. The selected artists will bear their traveling costs from / to the place of origin to / from the residency.
3. This call is open to all artists without any restriction of age, gender, nationality, etc.
4. At least 4 of the 10 grants will be awarded to artists born or living in Galicia (2) and Portugal (2).
5. The call is open from May, 11 to June, 22, 2007.
6. The following documentation should be included:
- Application form (available online on Binaural or Alg-a websites)
- A facsimile of the national identity card or passport
- A short artistic curriculum (max. 30 lines)
- The proposed artistic project to be developed in residency
- The proposed project schedule
- Technical needs of the project
- A description of previous developed projects or works (in digital and/or printed form)
- In case of audiovisual projects, a DVD may be annexed to the documentation.

7. Each candidate is free to include additional documentation that he/she finds useful for an accurate evaluation of the proposed artistic project.
8. The presented documents will not be returned to the candidates after the open call is finished.

La nueva generación de programas audiovisuales ha dado como resultado un medio atractivo para artistas que quieren mezclar diferentes disciplinas como diseño, arquitectura, música, danza, programación e imagen favoreciendo nuevas formas de experimentación y creación transdisciplinar.

El taller consistirá en una iniciación en la creación audiovisual en directo. Se trabajará cada uno de los pasos para la producción de una performance visual, desde la grabación del material hasta el montaje de una actuación. Durante el taller se mostraran diversos programas como Isadora.
