Join materials scientist Mark Miodownik, artist Zoe Laughlin and designer Martin Conreen as they reveal some of the secrets behind the Tate Modern collection. Featuring the melancholic Lead bell, the essence of fluorescence, musical combs, and other strange materials from the Materials Library. After the talk there will be the opportunity to get hands-on with the materials and play with the demonstrations.

Miodownik, Laughlin and Conreen are part of the Materials Library, a group which explores the beauty, strangeness and science of matter. They specialise in hands-on demonstrations of the art and science of stuff and have produced a free audio tour of the Tate Modern, also called >> What Can The Matter Be?

Tate: “We’re used to looking when we come to galleries, but have you ever wondered what a painting sounds like, or how your sense of touch might change the way you see a work of art? We invited a team from the Materials Library to explore the material nature of art from a scientific and sensory point of view. The result was this podcast, which takes the form of an audio tour of Tate Modern and accompanying short film showing the team in action.”
