Staalplaat Soundsystem was invited by Khoj to come and work in New Delhi. The main sonic interest in New Delhi is of-course the traffic and so a square would be the best object, for it functions as a central organ, pumping the loud traffic in the street system, where the square is the instruments body and the traffic the sound sources, the stings so to say. The most ideal square in New Delhi is Connaught Place having 3 circles and 7 radial roads, it seems as it is made specially for this. The Traffic sound character will be central part of the composition, sound and „musicians“ selected from the street, a choreography and composition taken of the city map. One prominent inhabitant of the city has forced himself as a main player, a mobile that they call ‚Auto‘, a small 3 wheel green and yellow Tuktuk taxi looking like a toy car, that inhabit the city by the thousands, like insects in the street. The communication language in New Delhi is by Car horn much like the way we use visual communication in Europe. Considering the fact that we do a installation named YOKOMONO with 10 red toy car record players, working with FM audio, if should be no surprise that I prefer to work with 10 of these green and yellow taxi’s and naming them YOKOMONO-Pro
