Musical Instruments taken out of context in performance still remain beautiful objects of formal composition and objects of the highest skill in craftsmanship. Returned to performance, the objects in the hands of the performer transcend beauty and time and speak instead to the Nature of the Universe.

The ancient search realized in Vibration, Resonance and Geometry realized in sound corresponds with pleasure and knowledge for all cultures.

We have chosen to explore in our time on Earth an idea: Could we increase the size of the instrument and walk inside? To walk inside the instrument and play the instrument is to feel the sound in your body, within your bones and within your mind.

We are curious as to the life of living inside a resonant house; an environmental musical instrument. We find the mind’s eye can equally see and enjoy the world through sound.

On a far Northern Lake Michigan beach, along with the wind and waves, resides a family within a joint experiment between David Hanawalt, Architect and Bill Close, Sonic Installation Artist. The Wege House explores in first steps the integration of site, sight and sound…As a main theme in their newly designed and built house, they have commissioned the creation of architecture as musical instruments.
