fLUX, ondas binarias es una instalación urbana y cibernética basada en la medición de los flujos infraestructurales (pasajeros, coches…) y comunicacionales (campos electromagnéticos producidos por teléfonos móviles, la radio…) y su transposición en pautas luminosas, sonoras y cinéticas. Esta relación entre la instalación y la actividad urbana ocurre en tiempo real, y convierte a todos los paseantes en un elemento de la instalación, como centro de la esfera pública.

fLUX, ondas binarias está constituida por una red de 32 paneles luminosos giratorios de 3 metros de alto por 60 centímetros de ancho, colocados cada 3 metros para formar un muro cinético. Los paneles rotan alrededor de su eje vertical, y tienen una superficie reflectante negra a un lado, mientras que la otra cara es mate y blanca. Su rotación se controla con microprocesadores que permiten determinar la velocidad y el ángulo del giro de manera precisa. Los microprocesadores están conectados a sensores infrarrojos, capturando los flujos infraestructurales del entorno, definiendo la frecuencia y la amplitud de la rotación. Gracias a esta configuración, cada impulso se transmite de un panel al otro, describiendo ondas visuales que fluyen de un lado a otro de la instalación, volviendo después mientras se reduce el movimiento progresivamente. Todos estos principios se relacionan con los ‘micro-eventos’ que ocurren en el área a través de un juego único de luces, colores y sonidos directamente derivados del ritmo de las corrientes urbanas.

Del 27 al 29 de noviembre se podrá ver en Bruselas, dentro del contexto del festival Cimatics.

EXPLODED MONOLOGUES

‘Exploded monologues’ is a wearable machine that allows the user to literally send his voice on one or more of the four different speakers, each of them located approximately one meter from the mouth of the user. A control interface with four different buttons enables the user to choose where his voice will be heard. An additional mask containing a microphone is worn to prevent the listener from hearing the performers voice directly.

‘Exploded monologues’ starts from a reflection on the dialogue through our new technologies of communication and the way they explode the boundaries of our bodies. ‘Exploded monologue’ is a performance tool that expands the possibilities of the narrative. The user is able to simulate different characters and play with the sonic space perceived by the listener.

Troika is a multi-disciplinary art and design practice founded in 2003 by Conny Freyer, Eva Rucki and Sebastien Noel, who met while studying at the Royal College of Art in London.

All underpinned by a theme of citystates, a creative inquiry into the idea of how we live in the modern metropolis.

Am Nauener Platz im Berliner Stadtteil Wedding sollen Soundinstallationen helfen, Lebensqualität und Nachbarschaft zu verbessern

Irgendwas stimmt hier nicht. Man kommt nicht gleich darauf. Aber wenn man eine Weile auf die alten Pappeln zwischen Bolzplatz und der Seniorenwohnanalge schaut, dann kann man es sich einfach nicht vorstellen. Beim besten Willen nicht. Selbst wenn hier durch die „Neugestaltung des Nauener Platzes“ bald noch so viele schöne Blumen stehen werden, Schaukeln für die Kinder, Bänke für die Alten und Hängematten für alle. Es würde nichts ändern. Niemals würde man sich hier richtig wohlfühlen.

Membraan is een geluidenexpo, waarbij we de bezoeker als een membraan, onderdompelen in een geluidenwereld, een wereld waar we dagdagelijks mee te maken hebben, maar waar we nog zelden stilstaan bij de communicatieve en poëtische kwaliteit ervan. Membraan is een cadrage waarbij geluiden voelbaar, zichtbaar en benaderbaar worden.

Naast deze auditieve installaties zullen er tal van audiovisueel werk van de deelnemers (kinderen, jongeren, leerkrachten, gedetineerden,…) te beluisteren zijn (zie “projecten” op deze site)

Desde este otoño se puede ver en Viena una instalación de luz permanente de Olafur Eliasson titulada Niebla Amarilla. Se trata de una intervención en el espacio público que permite que la fachada del edificio de la Verbund, una de las empresas eléctricas más importantes de Austria, se vea bajo una atmósfera diferente. Al caer la noche, surge una niebla amarilla que sube por la fachada del edificio.

Para hacer posible el espectáculo, se han introducido 32 tubos fluorescentes en el pavimento a lo largo de la fachada del edificio que emiten una luz amarilla especial. Cada día al llegar el anochecer, sube una neblina que rodea el edificio con un velo efímero durante una hora.

La niebla sirve como pantalla de proyección para la luz, cambiando la visión del edificio y creando una experiencia diferente de las distancias y relaciones espaciales.

Olafur Eliasson es un artista que suele trabajar con fenómenos naturales como el viento, el agua, la luz, la niebla y el hielo, afirmando que “usa la naturaleza como medio y la convierte en una producción”.

Composta por quatro obras, dos artistas Maksims Shentelevs (Letónia), Aaron Ximm (Estados Unidos da América), Pali Meursault (França) e John Grzinich (Estados Unidos da América/Estónia), esta instalação áudio foi desenvolvida no Centro de Residências Artísticas de Nodar. As paisagens sonoras, que estarão disponíveis no foyer, reflectem diferentes abordagens estéticas e técnicas ao ambiente rural de Nodar, localidade do concelho de S. Pedro do Sul, onde se situa o Centro de Residências Artísticas de Nodar. O Centro de Residências Artísticas de Nodar colocou-se desde o início das suas actividades (em 2006) na vanguarda da reflexão e prática internacional sobre paisagens sonoras (designações inglesas mais comuns: “soundscape”, “field recordings” e “phonography”), tendo já passado por Nodar cerca de duas dezenas dos mais conceituados artistas sonoros da actualidade.

A look at communication design from the position of the interface. The theme of this exhibition, “the future of the interface,” was chosen to reflect the particular cultural diverseness of today’s information society. On display are a variety of works from the fields of film, photography, animation, sound, architectural sculpture, product design and others, selected based on the principles of “art + physical expression” as an original discipline pioneered by YCAM. A total of eight artists/units from Japan, America, Netherlands, and Spain present their newest pieces of art and design - including commissioned works - at several points across the venue.

New Media in Public Space

The festival consists of an Art Show, Symposium, Live Cinema concerts, Artist Talks and an Expert Meeting.

The theme of ImageRadio 2008 is “Exploring Your Invisible Paradise”: Experimental installations in public space aimed at interaction and participation, making aware and inspiring people to use new media, enhancing their social and cultural well-being.

A number of installations are commissioned new works / artist in residence projects / localised work.

The festival is also an experiment, critical reflection, and preview of how new media in public space impact our cultural, social and physical surroundings. The increase of display devices, data clouds, sensor networks, particularly in urban centers, provides a new medium. Public space becomes a playground in which dynamic and manipulative data influence our perception. Potential applications are shown in experimental installations. Theory, discussion and exchange on these topics are facilitated in the professional program and symposium.

As the term used for numbering software programs, bêta version means a prototype that has pushed experimentation to the point where it is out in the forefront while admitting its imperfect state; perhaps only temporary, perhaps hopelessly flawed, it begins its distribution among users who are well aware of the risks. A result that has made it into the field of research, the beta version may still need a final metamorphosis if it is to really succeed, to reach its final destination and become effectively operational. Yet a beta version is interesting and presents a certain pleasure in demonstrations for itself and for discovering still other mutations. Isn’t art then a way of sticking with the bêta version?

Perhaps this is a facile response but it does have its rationale. To show experimentation at work in the new-media arts and locate the sources and the inspirers of such research and creation, Version bêta turns towards the venues, the labs and the collectives where art-oriented research is explicitly taking place. It makes no claims to evaluate or appraise the situation; Version bêta’s originality and pertinence lie in its efforts to draw on attentive, involved observers and correspondents the world over.

As one might expect, themes have naturally emerged, the result of current connections/oppositions: real time and process, time and space
